If you are interested in creating a simple audio podcast, you can record a podcast from your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad with the Audioboo app. After you make an account, it is easy to record your podcast and share it with the world. You can also submit your podcast to be distributed through the iTunes store.
Overview of Audioboo.fm
Audioboo is based on a social networking platform. People can use their iPhones and other mobile devices to create audio recordings that are under 5 minutes, and then podcast them from their phone to a designated webaddress at Audioboo.fm. You can add pictures and your location so that your friends can follow your Audioboo podcasts, but you can turn those options off if you are concerned about privacy.
You can also set up your podcast to be automatically distributed through Twitter by signing up for Audioboo with your Twitter account. When you post an Audioboo, your Twitter followers will get a tweet and a link to your Audioboo podcast. You can share your podcast on Facebook or through email with a link, and you can set up an RSS feed so that your podcast can be distributed through your blog. You can also request that Apple distribute your podcast though iTunes.
How to Make an Audioboo Account
Before you start recording podcasts, you need to set up an account with Audioboo.fm. You need to use your email address or your Twitter account. If you use your email address, you have to wait for the confirmation email and click the link that Audioboo sends you. If you use your Twitter account, you need to allow Audioboo to have access to your Twitter account.
Once you have established an account, you can choose a name for your Audioboo address. Your podcast address will be: www.audioboo.fm/username. Your RSS feed will be based on your podcast address, and you can use that to share your podcast through feeds.
How to Create an Audioboo Podcast from an iPhone or iPad
Download the Audioboo app from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. The app also works on the iPod Touch. You will log in with your user name and password. In Settings, decide if you want to show your location or not. Have your story or your podcast ready to read; once you press "record" you will get a quick countdown before the audio is recorded. There is a pink screen that shows your voice levels so you can maintain the same volume.
After you have recorded your podcast, click "Publish". You will have the option to add a picture, but you do not need to do that to publish your podcast. You can describe your podcast, which is called a Boo, and add tags. The tags are for organizing different podcasts. If you record a series of audiobook chapters, you would write the chapter name in "Describe Your Boo" and write the title of the book and the title of the book in the "Tags" section.
The free podcasting software from Audioboo is not exclusive to the iPhone app. There is an online platform so you can record a podcast from your computer and post your podcast online. There is also an Android app so you can make podcasts from Android phones and tablets. If they work as well as the iPhone and iPad apps, you will be happy making short podcasts from any computer with Audioboo.
